The reason why I became a muslim (2) Realize my belief

Denial of all religions

I started to deny all religions.  I looked down the people who are in religious positions.

"How pity they are!" Or rather "How silly they are!" I was thinking

I specially detested  nuns and monks because for my eyes they look to be just weak foolish people, believing in something untrue, not marrying, not having children, not wearing what they want, not doing what they want but spend all their precious life for some kind of illusion.

Met Arabs again

I worked as Japanese language teacher.

In my school I met some Arabs again.  Like Arabs in the language school in UK, they were also very ordinary people, far from "religious".   They were enjoying life in Japan, enjoying the food, new friends in Japan but they had strong unswerving belief to their religion.  They were very unique and different from any other people with religion.  They were living in secular and spiritual life.

In the discussion with them, I was asked one question, "What do Japanese people believe in?"  I answered, "We mostly believe in Buddhism and at the same time Shintoism." They said its strange to believe in two things.  They also said its strange to pray to Bhuddah statue.  I started to defend Japanese people.  I said "Don't make a fool out of us!  We don't believe in the statue but we believe in the existence behind the statue."  It was the moment I admitted I have some kind of belief.

Realizing my belief

I didn't like what so called "religion" because religion seemed to be the source of troubles in the world.  However I liked visiting religious places such as churches, temples and shrines, places for prayer.  The places are always tranquil and serene.  The places have power to make all the people in the place become honest to themselves and face to "something" with pure heart.  Even kids running outside become quiet once they enter the place.  I liked the atmosphere, very much.  Those people may visit such places not to pray but just for sightseeing but the heart facing to something is true.  I was feeling in the way.

In Japan most people visit shrines in New Year's Day.  Shrines become very crowded every year.  Young ones to old ones visit shrines, and pray.  Young people may say, "Well there's no other places to go in New Year's Day so we just go!"  Yet I could see their sincere faces standing in front of the god of each shrine, putting the palms of hands together and closing their eyes. Someone close their eyes and pray long but someone do so for very short time.  No matter how long or short it is, the very moment is the moment of truth, which is beautiful, sweet, happy, sublime and holy.  Their faces change from anxiety to peace.  But unfortunately shortly after I see their faces change back again to uncertainty because they don't know to what they are praying.

We often make such act of prayer.  In the middle of exam or inside severely shaking airplane or if you are put in the middle of the ocean alone.  You will say "please help!", then to whom you are asking for help?  Do you still say you believe in nothing?  Stop deceiving yourself!  I was asking all such questions to myself.

Once I knew the reality of the super existence, all what I had to do was to find who it is.

I was eager, very eager to know who it is.
