明日からラマダンになるらしい。

はい、知らないのです、今夜の月を見るまでは。
何とも古めかしい話のようですが、教えに従って、月を、見るのです。
新月。つまり生まれたばかりの細い細い月を目視で確認することで、新しい月monthを確認します。勿論各々が確認する訳ではなく、「新月確認委員会」というのが例年東京タワーやサンシャイン、スカイツリーといった「高いところ」から月見します。
月が小さい、天気が悪い、というと数日見えない、なんてことにもなりかねないので、見えない場合は最近隣イスラム諸国に倣います。日本の場合、マレーシアの結果に委ねることがほとんどです。
あまりに天気が悪くて、見えっこないだろう！という時でも見に行きます。伝統行事だからという理由だけではありません。今は天文学的に計算もできるでしょう、高性能の望遠鏡もあるでしょう。ムスリム (イスラム信者) 個人がgoogleって簡単に確実な答えが得られるでしょう。
イスラムは、ユニバーサルで普遍的です。どこでもどの時代にも通用するものです。そう考えた場合、何もない環境でも、個人ででも責任持ってできるのが、目視なのでしょう。
ということで、時差こそあれ、今が、世界中のムスリムが一番ソワソワしている時かも知れません。
旅でも何でも、始まる直前が一番楽しいもの。
そう、今むっちゃ楽しいです。

It sonds very old fashioned but we must check the moon following the tradition.
New moon. Confirming it, we can know the new month Ramadan starts.
Not each of us try to confirm it but "Hilal Committee" goes to high placese such as Tokyo Tower, Sunshine, Sky Tree to confirm the new moon.
If we can't see the moon, we normally follow the closest Islamic country. Japan normally follows the decision of Malaysia.
"The weather is too bad. You can't see it 100%!" Even in such a case, we go to see it. Its not only because its the tradition. At present you may be able to calculate to know the calender as we have very good astronomical telescope.
However Islam is universal and everlasting which is applicable to any place and any era. Considering it, in any environment the way anyone in general can practice may be visual observation.
There are time differences but this may be the time all muslims in the world are feeling restless and excited.
As for trip or any kind of event, the moment before it starts is the most exciting, is it not so?
